Energy, Environment and Society - the Holy Trinity of Sustainability, especially in a world where we are trying to do “more with less". That’s where my team comes in
- numerically quantifying issues that are often left in a qualitative context.
As Manager of the company’s Sustainability Group I focus on finding
answers to complex and difficult questions. Throw into the equation
the fact that few people actually understand the “scientific jargon"
along with the media misinformation and political priorities, this
is a hugely challenging yet rewarding area of work. Trying to
satisfy clients and stakeholders with variable demands is not always
straightforward and requires a large degree of tact and
interpersonal skill.
Ultimately, we try to provide a small, yet technically excellent interface between our own engineers, external clients and our public sector partners, and this has only been possible by assembling a dynamic group of specialists. Teamwork is critical in sustainability and our team of project managers, scientists and academics work in a hybrid manner to ensure that all schemes are considered strategically in the design, construction and lifecycle phases. I wouldn’t go as far as saying "its like working with your mates", but in truth, it feels like it most days which is why I tolerate commuting to central London on packed trains, safe in the knowledge I’ll be doing some interesting work with an eccentric bunch of professional and enthusiastic people.
