With limited availability of landfill space, waste disposal is a major problem in Devon. In an effort to address this issue in an environmentally sustainable manner, Exeter City Council was the first authority in Devon to introduce a two-bin, alternate week recycling collection. To coincide with the scheme, the Council established its first Materials Reclamation Facility (MRF). The City Council's former vehicle maintenance workshop was demolished to make way for the new facility, as this building was too small, and its roof not high enough, to house the required equipment. We provided detailed design for the new MRF.
