As part of Nottingham City Council's bid for the Government's Transforming Cities Fund, Pell Frischmann designed 3D illustrations of the new bridge over the River Trent for Nottingham City Council and the Bridge Steering Group.
Nottingham Bridge is aiming to connect Lady Bay on the south bank of the Trent with the new Waterside development on the north side, as well as easing congestion for commuting in and out of central Nottingham – this has been designed for cyclists and pedestrians too.
The bridge will provide easy access to cafes, bars and restaurants as part of the Waterside development regeneration north of the river.
Sue Flack, representative of the Trent Basin Residents Association, said: “We are pleased to be working alongside Pell Frischmann on the development of the proposed foot/cycle bridge, which is supported by Trent Basin Residents Association, local groups and organisations. The bridge would mean better access for residents both north and south of the river to all the great leisure destinations nearby, such as Holme Pierrepoint and Colwick Park, as well as to the riverside walkways which will eventually go along both banks of the river”.
The bridge was designed using 3D-modelling and illustration software. Visual stills and an animated fly-through video were presented to all stakeholders before the final bid was submitted.
When creating the animation, no pre-design drawings of Nottingham Bridge were available to reference as Visual Illustrations Designer, Richard Childs, explains: “As there were no previous designs, photos of similar type footbridges from Gloucestershire were used as references of the client’s aspirations. Collaboration and consultation with all key parties and stakeholders was essential to deliver a high-quality design, as well as conforming with Government guidelines”.
At Pell Frischmann, “Excellence Through Innovation” permeates our company culture. We believe that quality engineering goes beyond simply achieving codified compliance. We look forward to building bridges with Nottingham County Council, producing designs to deliver safe, high-quality engineering for the local residents to enjoy.
