AJ Building of the Year - Weston Library

Architects Journal has named Weston Library - previously the New Bodleian Library - the Building of the Year at its annual awards.

Weston Library is a remarkable building and involved some truly innovative engineering, making a new feature of its beautiful past while improving facilities for future generations of academics and students.

Much of the existing building was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in the 1930s, though some of its grandeur had been hidden by extensions built in later decades. Other reinstated or showcased features date back to the earliest building on the site from the 1600s.

The new design provides high quality new storage ñ including enhanced underground space for valuable artefacts and collections. It also provides modern space for advanced research, a new lecture theatre, and new exhibition galleries that provide greater public access.

The award is a wonderful recognition of the success of the development, and demonstrates why architects like Wilkinson Eyre, and clients like the University of Oxford increasingly turn to Pell Frischmann for some of the most sensitive and technologically complex projects in the world.
