Main Purpose of the Job 

The Senior Engineer will be required to produce hands on design and be able to lead projects teams. The Senior Engineer will produce documentation suitable for each of the key RIBA stages (and, by implication, Building Control submission. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The principal duty of Senior Structural Engineers is to produce documentation suitable for    each of the key RIBA stages (and, by implication, Building Control submission). This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Calculations
  • Drawings & Sketches
  • Specifications
  • Components of a Senior Engineers work may be executed by Engineers or Graduate Engineers and Senior Engineers are expected to brief them and monitor technical progress. 

As a Senior Engineer, you will be expected to act as a role model of professional excellence for Engineers and Graduate Engineers. You will brief less experienced engineers on design tasks, oversee the progress of the design and utilise your awareness of project budgets and timelines to ensure jobs are completed on time and under budget.

You will be competent on the design of all common UK building materials and develop a special expertise in one or more areas of Structural Engineering (e.g. Steel or Concrete), attending design meetings/workshops to present and discuss your work. In addition, you will seek opportunities to develop PF’s capabilities and brand by developing and sharing your design/analysis skills both internally and externally and by representing PF within industry to market our skills. Senior Engineers at Pell Frischmann are expected to participate heavily in early stage scheming and be familiar with typical depth to span ratios and other features of economical design. You will be able to determine the scope of services and design requirements from non-technical briefings (i.e. architectural drawings) and have an awareness of a range of possible solutions to structural problems. The Senior Engineer will;

  • Undertake site visits to determine existing building geometry, condition of accessible structure, and inspect anything else that might be relevant when carrying out design for any plausible alterations.
  • Read and interpret geotechnical reports as required for structural design.
  • Utilise BIM, computer design software and other design aids as required and feedback fixes to software problems and best practice through the engineering forum. These may include; AutoCAD, Revit, Naviswork, Scia, Etabs, Robot, Tekla, RAM Concept and other proprietary software that may be relevant.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Qualification

  • BEng and CEng or MEng near chartered (within 1 year)
  • MEng + CEng

Experience

  • 5 years min overall, at least 4 years in UK.

 

  • 6/7 years of experience in UK.
  • 1 year experience in the role (Senior Engineer).

Skills

  • CAD / BIM literate
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Sound knowledge of major structural design suites (at least one of Tekla, Scia, Robot, Etabs, SAP2000).
  • Languages: Professional proficient in English (CEFR level C1 min).
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal & written.
  • Revit/AutoCADknowledge preferred.
  • Experience in specialized design such as high rise, parametric, PT, API, blast resistance.
