Principal Engineer - Highways and Drainage, Luton

About the Role

This role is based in our Luton office, but the successful candidate will offer Highways Drainage design expertise using Civil 3D to Pell Frischmann’s UK-wide offices.   Providing a valuable Highway Drainage design capability, you will collaborate with our Highways professionals throughout the UK to deliver a wide range of multi-disciplinary Highways projects for public and private sector clients.  Communication with project managers and design leads will be a key element of the role to ensure best outcomes are achieved.  You will also have other Highways design experience and be able to contribute to, or lead on, some of the Highways project work.

Typically, the role will involve: 

  • Provide Highway Drainage design capability on a range of Highway projects
  • Manage the technical delivery of Highway projects
  • Drive the production of high-quality project design
  • Prepare details of scope, deliverables, programme and fees for agreement with Clients, project managers and design leads
  • Assess challenges, research options and take decisions
  • Ensure designs are technically accurate and meet Client requirements
  • Ensure designs satisfy the requirements of CDM regs 2015
  • Mentor the design team in all aspects of design and documentation
  • Advise Project Managers on technical matters, influence scheme programmes
  • Plan and manage your work and the work of junior staff to meet project needs

Essential Skills/Exp:

  • BSc/MSc or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Chartered/Incorporated status
  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience in Highways and/or Drainage design
  • Experience with SUDs, FRA’s and Windes
  • AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and Powerpoint
  • Extensive knowledge of DMRB, MCHW, TSRGD and Sewers for Adoption
  • Good presentation, communication and report writing skills

Desirable Skills/Exp:

  • Use of HecRas/Isis, Foul Drainage Design, Pumping stations/rising main design
  • Knowledge of S.104 agreements
  • Knowledge of FWMA legislation
  • Use of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Use of applications for design of traffic signs and road markings
