Principal Engineer/Associate - Highways - Luton

About the Role

The successful candidate will provide Leadership to the design team, driving the delivery of a wide range of multi-disciplinary highways projects for public and private sector clients across the UK.  Communication with stakeholders, project managers and design support teams will be a key element of the role, as will co-ordination of all design work to achieve best outcomes.  The work covers all aspects of design and management from inception through to detailed design and construction support.

Typically, the role will involve: 

  • Must have experience managing the technical delivery of UK Highway projects
  • Drive the production of high-quality project design
  • Liaise with and advise Clients to ensure project design exceeds expectations
  • Assess challenges, research options and take decisions
  • Ensure designs are prepared in accordance with DMRB or local equivalent
  • Ensure designs are technically accurate and meet Client requirements
  • Ensure designs satisfy the requirements of CDM regs 2015
  • Manage the production of drawings, specification appendices and reports
  • Co-ordinate activities with other Pell Frischmann offices and specialist disciplines
  • Mentor the design team in all aspects of design and documentation
  • Guide the team in the interpretation of DMRB, MCHW and other documents
  • Advise Project Managers on technical matters, influence scheme programmes
  • Plan and manage your work and the work of junior staff to meet project needs
  • Manage the preparation of fee offers for agreement with client

Essential Skills/Exp:

  • BSc/MSc or HND/HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Chartered/Incorporated status
  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience in Highways design
  • AutoCAD
  • Extensive knowledge of DMRB, MCHW, TSRGD
  • Good presentation, communication and report writing skills

Desirable Skills/Exp:

  • Use of applications for design of traffic signs and road markings
  • Use of Civils-3D on major projects
  • Drainage design
  • Assessment of safety barriers
  • Hold a valid UK driving license
